What is the "Cash-for-Clunkers" program? |

"Cash-for-Clunkers" program (AKA “Car Allowance Rebate System”) is a new program that will help you pay for a new, more fuel-efficient car or truck from Honda of Port Richey while getting less fuel efficient vehicles, that pollute the air, off the road. |

How do I know if my current car or truck is an eligible trade-in vehicle? |

A: |
There are several requirements that your current vehicle must follow:
- have been manufactured 1984 model year or later
- have a combined city/highway
- fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon or less
- be in drivable condition
- be continuously insured and registered to the same owner for a full year before the trade-in
- Work trucks, large pickup trucks and cargo vans have different requirements.
- Standard-duty models (most SUVs, vans and pickups) must get 18 mpg or less.
- Heavy-duty models (6,000-8,500 gross vehicle weight rating) must get 15mpg or less
- Work trucks (8,500-10,000 pounds) don't have mpg ratings, so age is the criteria. The trade-in has to be a 2001 model or older.

What MPG must the new vehicle get to qualify? |
| |
A: |
Each vehicle has a required mpg improvement range. For passenger cars, if the mileage is improved by 10 MPG, you will get $4500. If the increase is 4 MPG, you will receive $3500. However, work trucks, very large pickup trucks & cargo vans have different requirements. See the table below and it will help answer questions regarding the mpg requirements.

Does this program apply if I lease a new vehicle or must the vehicle be a purchase? |

Eligible new vehicles can be purchased OR leased from Honda of Port Richey, given the lease is at least five years. |

Yes. The MSRP cannot exceed $45,000. |

No, you may trade in or buy a domestic or foreign vehicle. As a matter of fact, Honda is the most searched brand in relation to the Cash For Clunkers program. |

What does the dealer do with my trade? |

If you have a qualifying vehicle, Honda of Port Richey will be required by law to scrap the vehicle so it can no longer be driven. Again however, >we will take any vehicle on trade even if it doesn’t quality for the government program. These vehicles may be resold or taken to auctions. |

Is there a time limit or cap on the number of vehicles? |
